Organic or OrgaNOT?

The real deal

There are so many companies these days that are trying to claim “all-natural” or “organic” in order to keep up with the times.

Many think that the all-natural lifestyle is simply a fad, but for most of us we understand that it is a  way to live our lives until the end.  However, picking organic, all-natural hair care products isn’t easy.

Commercial hair care companies are shelling out millions of dollars to recreate their own “all-natural” image.  Many companies are simply adding in a few botanic ingredients in with their already chemically-ridden formulas and calling it natural and organic.  One thing we know for sure:  If it suds and lathers than it probably isn’t natural.  I know it’s hard to give up the lather but those suds contain serious toxins and chemicals!

In a review done by the Environmental Working Group last year the result found:

Of 413 shampoos, it found that 11 percent of products contained a known probable or possible carcinogen (including selenium sulfide and coal tar, found in some dandruff shampoos), 17 percent had ingredients that may be linked to breast cancer, and 82 percent had ingredients believed to help carcinogens penetrate the scalp (including EDTA, propylene glycol, urea, and PEG-7 glyceryl cocoate). There’s also the possibility that certain preservatives called parabens might present a health risk.

Consumers worried about the lack of testing on these ingredients are doing their best to push for stronger regulations, but not much is moving.  Make sure when you are buying ORGANIC & NATURAL products they are just that.  When in doubt,  check the label! If you can’t understand the ingredients then chances are they aren’t natural.

Oh, and remember, just because the label says, “Organic,” “Organics,” “100% Organic Active Ingredients” and/or “Made with Organic Ingredients” doesn’t mean it’s free of chemicals.  So check that label before you purchase!  It only takes a couple of seconds and it could change or even save your life.  Happy health and hair!
